 Post Awards Ceremony at Canyon Springs L-R: Tevin, Jacob, Sage, and Star Photo Credit: Ross Weckesser  | The Speech and Debate team attended the Canyon Springs Speech and Debate tournament December 11-12th. Basic Academy was one of 31 schools in attendance. The tournament had over 900 individual entries across the speech and debate events. Bringing home hardware, Sage Steffen placed 2nd in JV Congressional Debate and Jacob Weckesser placed 3rd in Novice Congressional Debate. There were 31 schools in attendance, over 100 rounds of speeches and interps and 80 rounds of debate. Other notable performances from the team include: Stephanie Paredes who placed 2nd in both of her Oratory speech rounds and had a 2-1 winning record in Lincoln Douglas Debate. Newcomer, Ma'Lea Cooley placed 3rd in both of her Oratory speech rounds, and team captain Tevin Stewart placed 2nd and 4th in his Varsity Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking rounds. The team heads out to Palo Verde in January. Go Wolves! We'd like to thank the Weckesser family for providing team snacks and lunch.
